The Dong live mainly in Guizhou, Guangxi and Hunan. Their population in the 2010 census was 2,879,974.
The Dong trace their origins back to about the third century bc. They speak a Thai language and are primarily agricultural. Dong architecture features covered bridges and multi-storey drum towers.
