Guilin is a province located in the southwestern part of China, covering an area of over 170000 square kilometer, with Guiyang as its provincial capital city. Guizhou province is a part of the Yun-Gui Plateau, regarded as one of the regions with a large number of minority people including the Miao, Tujia and Yao minoroties.

- The Dong live mainly in Guizhou, Guangxi and Hunan. Their population in the 2010 census was 2,879,974.
- The Dong trace their origins back to about the third century bc. They speak a Thai language and are primarily agricultural. Dong architecture features covered bridges and multistorey drum towers.
